this illustration. As found with the 1.8 MPi K series, there is very little advantage with fitting after market panel filters in terms of outright power. Unlike the MPi, that posses a torque dip in its toque curve that the panel filters correct, the VVC's power and torque curves are remarkably linear, probably reflecting the superior breathing characteristic of its head and inlet manifold design over the standard 1.8 engine. Out of the panel filters, there were no clear winners, despite differing nature of construction of each filter. |
VVC panel filter test conclusion:
No overall winner. These filters result in only a small gain in developed performance, at a price that is very close to that of a 'performance' cone filter. The verdict, therefore, was that the performance cones are likely to be of more benefit to the VVC owner.
